The Negroni - A Classic Italian Cocktail

Let's talk Negronis—the classic Italian cocktail that's all about balance. Renowned for its harmonious blend of gin, sweet vermouth, and Campari. Its timeless appeal has inspired numerous variations that cater to diverse palates. These variations showcase the Negroni's versatility and enduring charm.

The Classic Negroni offers a balanced mix of botanicals and bitters, providing a robust and refreshing experience. The traditional recipe is a balanced blend of gin, sweet vermouth, and Campari.


Ingredients:

50ml Prototype Gin

50ml sweet vermouth (get your hands on a bottle of Dollin)

1 oz (30 ml) Campari

Orange, for garnish


Instructions:

  1. Fill a mixing glass with ice.

  2. Add the Prototype Gin, sweet vermouth, and Campari.

  3. Stir well until chilled.

  4. Strain into a rocks glass filled with ice.

  5. Garnish with an orange slice.


The White Negroni introduces a contemporary twist by substituting traditional ingredients with Lillet Blanc and Suze, resulting in a lighter, more floral profile. Switching the traditional components with lighter alternatives, results in a crisp and floral cocktail.


Ingredients:

50ml Prototype Gin

50ml Lillet Blanc

50ml Suze (a French bitter aperitif)

Orange, for garnish


Instructions:

  1. Fill a mixing glass with ice.

  2. Add the Prototype Gin, Lillet Blanc, and Suze.

  3. Stir well until chilled.

  4. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass or a rocks glass with ice.

  5. Garnish with an orange slice.


The Cardinale further diversifies the Negroni family by replacing sweet vermouth with dry vermouth and Campari with Aperol, creating a drier, yet equally captivating, cocktail. A lighter, drier twist on the classic Negroni, substituting sweet vermouth with dry vermouth and Campari with Aperol, results in a more delicate flavor profile.


Ingredients:

50ml Prototype Gin

50ml dry vermouth (our recommendation is Noilly Pratt)

50ml Aperol

Orange, for garnish


Instructions:

  1. Fill a mixing glass with ice.

  2. Add the gin, dry vermouth, and Aperol.

  3. Stir well until chilled.

  4. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass or a rocks glass with ice.

  5. Garnish with an orange twist.
